If you have been issued a Notice to Quit your room in the university halls of residence because you have fallen behind with your fee payments and are wondering about what your options are, then we hope the next steps listed below are helpful to you.

If you have been issued a Notice to Quit your room for another reason for example, you have breached the code of behaviour as detailed in your licence agreement, then please discuss this with your local accommodation service team. You can make an appointment to meet with the team by raising an enquiry, or you can use the link on your accommodation portal to make an appointment.

If you need any other support, advice or guidance then please raise an enquiry and the team will be in touch.

You would like to stay in your room in hall

We understand you might be anxious about your notice to leave your room in hall, however the team are here to help and if you are struggling to pay your fees, we can talk to you about your options.

You can make payment or part payment

If you can pay your outstanding fee or you can make part of the payment, please do this now on your student portal. If you are paying part of the amount due and do not think you can pay the balance by your notice expiry date then please raise an enquiry with the team and we can review the arrangements with you.

The team regularly check your account and if you have made payment of the balance outstanding, or we have agreed a lower payment at the current time, then you will receive an email confirming your notice has been rescinded within two working days (please note that when the university closes over vacation periods/ public holidays there will be a  delay in notifications at that time).

After you have paid your balance (or any other agreed amount) and engaged with our team and your Notice to Quit has been rescinded, your booking will revert to its original terms and you will no longer be required to move out by the expiry date of the Notice.

You cannot make payment

If you would like to stay in your room in hall and cannot make any payment then please make an appointment to speak to the team, or attend one of the drop ins as advertised at your hall of residence or at Avery Hill, drop into the student centre between 10am and 4pm and chat to the team. We will talk about your circumstances with you and help you to plan next steps.

You plan to leave hall

Please fill out the check out form on your accommodation portal and let us know when you are planning to move out. You should also raise an enquiry to tell us your plans so we can discuss any important information with you that will help you plan your departure. (Please note if you pay the balance due or an agreed amount, then your notice will be rescinded and you will no longer be required to vacate hall, if you pay this fee before departure, your current licence agreement will remain in place).

When you leave your room, please make sure you remember to check you have taken all your belongings from your room and the kitchen area and have removed all the rubbish and left the room clean and tidy. This will help avoid any additional costs for cleaning or rubbish removal being added to your outstanding balance. Hand your key into reception and any post box or other keys.

When you tell us you are leaving hall, we will send you a final balance of your account. You will not be charged after your move out date. You will then be able to arrange a payment plan for your outstanding fee balance.

Please remember, if you leave hall because you have been given a Notice to Quit, then you may not be allowed to move back into hall in the future.
