We, in Student Wellbeing Service, are here to support you in a safe and confidential space.
Student Wellbeing Service includes support for Counselling, Disability & Dyslexia, Psychological Wellbeing, and Mental Health. Our team members are trained professionals and we follow strict confidentiality guidelines as stated by recognised professional bodies such as British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (PATOSS). We follow ethical guidelines to protect your privacy and provide the best possible support.
Will others know I am receiving mental health and / or counselling support?
Some teams within Student and Academic Services may see that you’re engaging with the Student Wellbeing Service via the Student Lifecycle Management (SLM) system. This is recorded as ‘working with’ – but don’t worry, it doesn’t include personal session notes or specific details about your support. These remain private, secure, and confidential.
We do not share your information with academic staff, parents, guardians, or anyone else who doesn’t need to know.
When might confidentiality be broken?
In very rare situations, we may need to break confidentiality, but this only happens if:
There is a serious risk to your safety or the safety of others.
Even in these cases, we will try our best to discuss it with you first. If there is an urgent and serious risk, other University staff may be involved to help keep you safe.
