If you don’t plan to visit campus, you technically won’t need a Greenwich Gateway card (student ID card) for your studies - However, having one is still very useful.

A student ID card can give you access to:

  • University libraries across the UK through the SCONUL Access scheme (includes borrowing books).

  • Student discounts at shops, restaurants and travel providers

  • Proof of student status for events, software or services that offer educational pricing

  • Identification if you ever attend an in-person event or graduation ceremony

Firstly, you will need to obtain your student ID card. All students have access to these, provided they have completed Online Registration and Document Checks, plus have uploaded a photo.

If you are based in the UK, your student ID card will be posted to the home address listed on your portal.

For those based outside the UK, if visiting the UK you can obtain you student ID card from a Student Centre on any of our three campuses (Greenwich, Medway or Avery Hill). You must present your original, valid and in-date passport (or other accepted form of ID).

Please note we cannot issue student ID cards to anyone but the person it belongs to – so a family member can’t collect it on your behalf for instance. If there are exceptional reasons that you cannot come onto campus to collect your student ID card please log an enquiry through the Digital Student Centre

Also, if you’re looking to obtain your card on campus during peak registration time (Welcome Week) you may need to register to Eventbrite to avoid waiting in a queue.

If you lose your card, you can get one free replacement posted out to you, any further replacements will incur a £5 charge.
